About

Kathleen M. Mahon works as a Graphic and CAD Designer while pursuing her passions as a fiber and textile artist. She received a Bachelor of Arts focused in Fiber and Fabric Art from Western Washington University in 2014 where she also spent time studying Art History and Industrial Design.

Working with a variety of techniques, Kathleen explores relationships between memories and the present, and culture and the individual.

Like many children of the military, Kathleen developed her own unique culture over time. Moving almost every two years, the melding of multiple “American” cultures is evident in her array of styles and techniques. The colors and fluidity of West and South Texas where Kathleen was first introduced to loom weaving, often commingle with the structure she took away from stories of Upstate New York's bygone textile industry her grandmother grew up in. An interest in lace-making was piqued by pieces her mother acquired when the family lived in Germany and embroidery was a skill passed down by older family members. Recently, Kathleen has taken a larger interest in examining the cultures that come together in her own story; how they fit together, and how they've influenced her.
